Being a Christian is never smooth sailing, in fact, it can be downright risky business as we scale mountains, trudge through valleys and cross deserts on our journey towards God. Christianity is not easy - just like life is not easy! Yet one of the wonderfully reassuring things about being a Christian is that we don't have to got it alone. The journey is always a pilgrimage as 'a people' - a community of faith who walk under the protection and guidance of God.

Lent offers us an invaluable opportunity to renew our love for one another. From this love our mission to be a sign of God's presence in the world. Through us, people will come to recognise - not 'perfection', but something very precious, something worth finding out about, perhaps worth giving our lives to. Let's make the most of this Lent.

It is the beginning of a new school year, and God is a God of new beginnings and new creations. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, new life, blessed it and called it good.

We give thanks for a new school year and for new beginnings. We give thanks that you call us good.

God of new beginnings, new life, and new journeys, you sent Abraham and Sarah into a new land ... walk with us, we pray, as we enter into a new year of learning, a new path, new opportunities. Amen.
